Christmas Ham Glaze

Ham is my family’s meat of choice for our Christmas Eve meal. I know a lot of families do a Christmas Day feast but in my family growing up, we always did our big meal on Christmas Eve. We keep that tradition going. We like just being able to eat left overs on Christmas day and relax! Christmas Eve has always been, and still is, quite a production! We have lots of food, we open sibling gifts, we re-enact the nativity…see what I mean? A production indeed. I love family traditions and I LOVE the fact that my kids are getting old enough to enjoy all of these traditions.

Of course amidst all of these traditions food is one of the biggest parts! Having a nice moist ham with a flavorful glaze is something that is pretty much essential to our holiday happiness. My husband got our ham over a week ago and was sad that we have to wait so long to eat it! He will soon be satisfied with this wonderful ham glaze recipe I came up with.

Orange Ham Glaze

2 teaspoons orange zest

1/4 cup freshly squeezed orange juice

1/4 cup honey

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1/4 teaspoon allspice

combine in a small sauce pan over medium heat until fragrant and warm. Baste over ham every 10 minutes during the last 1/2 hour of baking.
