How to Cook Bacon in the Oven

Cooking bacon in the oven gives you all the flavor with out the mess. So bring on the bacon!

My sister first told me about cooking bacon in the oven when I was in college. I couldn’t really believe it possible. Don’t you HAVE to cook it on the stove top and get burned by popping grease at least 3 times and possibly ruin your favorite shirt with grease stains before you can enjoy the most wonderful food in the world? I can tell you now that the answer in no! You don’t have to go through all that!

All you have to do is line your jelly roll pan tin foil. TIP: use the extra wide roll of foil (18 inches). When I try to use multiple pieces of the small foil, no matter how many pieces I use, I can never seem to keep all the drippings contained and it all seeps through the cracks onto the pan underneath. While the clean up is still significantly less, it’s just nicer to not have to wash a pan at all. Am I right?

Next you put your bacon on the pan. You can cram it on there nice and tight, the bacon shrinks a lot while in the oven.

Now put it in a cold oven, turn on the oven to 400 degrees and put the timer on for 20 minutes. If you like crispier bacon, let it go about 22-24 minutes. Once you have done this a few times you will see how your oven cooks the bacon and you can perfect the timing easily to get it to the perfect texture you like.

After you take the bacon off the pan and place it on a paper towel-lined plate, you are left with something like this

Since there is all that nice extra foil around the edges you don’t have to wait until this stuff hardens up, just bring up the edges into something like this
