Strawberry Pretzel Salad

This “salad” is a staple at my family’s thanksgiving dinner. We would only ever have it once a year (probably because it’s so “healthy”). I always looked forward to this dish with anticipation! It really does taste delicious, it’s pretty, it has jell-o, and lots and lots of great memories!

This isn’t my original recipe (I got it from my mom…don’t know where it originated from) but it’s a tradition that I am passing on to my family. I made it for my in laws when I hosted Thanksgiving one year and now it is my job to make the Strawberry Pretzel Salad every Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s fun to have something that I am known to bring!

BEWARE, you may get caught eating the whole thing if you aren’t careful. So bring it to a big family gathering where everyone gets a piece and you don’t have to suffer the affects of a sugar overload! I can tell you, I am speaking from experience. I have little to no self control when it comes to this dish.

2 2/3 cup pretzels, crushed

3/4 cup butter, melted

1, 8oz package cream cheese, softened

1 cup sugar

2 cups cool whip

1, 6 oz package strawberry jell-o

2 cups boiling water

1, 10oz package frozen strawberries

Melt butter and mix with pretzels. Press into a 9×13 pan, bake at 300 degrees for 10 minutes, cool. Blend cream cheese and sugar together. Add Cool Whip. Spread on pretzels, covering completely. Blend Jell-O, water and strawberries. Pour on cream cheese layer. Refrigerate until firm.
